The stock market will remain open on both September 16 and 17, 2024, despite the upcoming holidays of Eid-e-Milad and Anant Chaturdashi.

Investors have been curious about whether the market would close on these dates, especially following a long weekend. However, no market holidays are scheduled for these two days, and trading will proceed as usual.

The confusion arose when the Maharashtra government announced a change in the Eid-e-Milad holiday date for Mumbai. Originally planned for September 16, the holiday has now been moved to September 18, 2024, based on requests from the local Muslim community.

This change was made to avoid a clash with Anant Chaturdashi, the final day of the Ganesh festival, which falls on September 17. To maintain peace and social harmony between the two communities, the Muslim community opted to hold their Eid processions on September 18. As a result, the public holiday for Eid-e-Milad in Mumbai will now be observed on that date.

Although there will be religious celebrations on September 16 and 17, the stock market will continue to operate during regular trading hours. Investors can expect normal market activities on both days, without any disruption. The next scheduled stock market holiday will be on October 2, 2024, in observance of Gandhi Jayanti. After that, the market will also close on November 1 for Diwali.

While the stock market remains unaffected, some states may observe bank holidays on these dates due to local festivals. Therefore, banking services could be limited in certain regions, but stock trading will carry on without interruption.
