Apple has just launched the fifth developer beta for iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, bringing more refinements and bug fixes ahead of the official release this fall. This update follows the fourth developer beta, which was released nearly two weeks ago.

Registered developers can access this beta by going to the Software Update section in the Settings app, selecting “Beta Updates,” and enabling the iOS 18/iPadOS 18 Developer Beta setting. Note that a developer account associated with an Apple ID is required to download and install the beta.

It’s important to mention that the beta versions for iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 are now separate from those for iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1. The .1 versions are specifically designed to introduce support for Apple Intelligence, a new suite of AI features for compatible devices.

Key Features of iOS 18

Although this beta focuses on minor improvements and bug fixes, here are some exciting features coming with iOS 18:

  • Apple Intelligence (Coming Later): A new set of AI tools integrated into the OS, including advanced writing aids, image and emoji generation, and enhancements to Siri and search functionality.
  • Home Screen Customization: New options for arranging apps with gaps, dark mode for app icons, and tinting features.
  • Customizable Control Center: Support for third-party apps in Control Center, with the ability to replace or remove the Flashlight and Camera icons.
  • Enhanced Messages: Support for RCS to improve conversations with Android users, text scheduling, new text effects, satellite messaging, and expanded Tapback options.
  • Dedicated Passwords App: A new hub for managing logins, passkeys, Wi-Fi passwords, and verification codes.
  • App Locking and Hiding: A security feature that lets users lock and hide apps with Face ID or Touch ID.
  • Safari Improvements: A new summary feature that highlights key information from websites.
  • Photos App Redesign: A streamlined interface for a better user experience.
  • Tap to Cash: Secure and private money transfers using Apple Cash.

Apple plans to release the stable versions of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 to the public around September.
