Staffing firm Xpheno has announced July 1 as a holiday for all its employees to celebrate India’s triumph over South Africa in the T20 Cricket World Cup. Xpheno, which employs over 500 people according to its LinkedIn profile, made this surprise announcement to honor the national team’s achievement.

“It was a surprise to all of us, and this is special as the first day of the month is usually busy with billings, payroll closures, etc. But it was decided to declare the day off as Team India put in a great effort, and this is our small tribute to the boys,” said Prasadh MS, head of workforce research at Xpheno, to media.

India’s victory on June 29 ended a 17-year wait for the T20 title. The Rohit Sharma-led team emerged victorious against a strong South African side, winning by 7 runs in a thrilling final in Barbados. The celebrations at the Kensington Oval lasted for nearly four hours, with players dancing and even the usually reserved outgoing coach Rahul Dravid joining in the festivities.
