India-China Border Standoff: A meeting between External affairs minister S Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi is underway in Moscow amid escalating tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. The two leaders are meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) foreign ministers’ meeting. In a press conference earlier in the day, the Ministry of External Affairs said India is committed to a peaceful resolution of the ongoing tensions and said both sides are in regular touch.

Earlier on Thursday, Jaishankar met Wang Yi at a luncheon also attended by the Russian foreign minister. Sources say Jaishankar is likely to categorically tell his Chinese counterpart that it cannot be business as usual at the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh unless China commits to restoring peace.
