The official trailer for Venom: The Last Dance has dropped, signaling that our favorite ebony antihero has some unfinished business in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe before inevitably causing chaos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, thanks to a piece of the symbiote now residing there.
On one hand, we should never say never—The Last Dance could surprise us all and emerge as a genuinely solid movie. This would be a refreshing change of pace considering its predecessors, and the other films in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, didn’t quite hit the mark. On the other hand, this franchise has let us down so often and so spectacularly that it’s hard to muster up too much hope, even for a movie featuring one of Spider-Man’s most fascinating foes.
Interestingly, in The Last Dance, Venom is more of a good guy. So, who’s Eddie Brock facing off against this time?
Who is the villain in Venom: The Last Dance?
From the trailer, it looks like Eddie and Venom are up against multiple adversaries. Eddie finds himself a particular person of interest amidst an alien invasion from Venom’s home planet. The antagonists include Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Orwell Taylor and Juno Temple’s Dr. Payne, a soldier and scientist duo tracking Eddie and Venom. Additionally, there’s the looming threat behind the alien invasion itself. We also see Patrick Mulligan (Stephen Graham), an NYPD officer who is now the host of the symbiote Toxin. Whether Mulligan will be friend or foe remains to be seen.
Venom: The Last Dance slithers into theaters on October 25.
