The Chicago Sky might be sitting at a humble 3-5 after eight games, with a victory drought that’s lasted nearly a week, but they’re certainly not lacking in drama.

Just a day after their controversial rookie Angel Reese got the boot late in their defeat to the Liberty, some Sky players found themselves in a more unsettling situation. Ahead of their Thursday face-off against the winless Mystics, reports surfaced that members of the team were harassed outside their D.C. hotel.

“My teammate being harassed at our hotel is insane! Couldn’t even step off the bus!!!” tweeted Isabelle Harrison on Wednesday, thanking the security team for their swift action.

Fans have been a bit harsh on the Sky lately, especially following Chennedy Carter’s intense collision with Caitlin Clark. Initially, the identity of the harasser was a mystery. Reese was quick to reveal that a player had a camera thrust in her face, and the Chicago Sun-Times later identified Carter as the target of a lone man’s unwanted attention.

“This is really outta control and needs to STOP,” Reese tweeted emphatically.

Sky GM Jeff Pagliocca assured that the situation was defused quickly without involving the police.

Michaela Onyenwere also weighed in on the incident, tweeting that there should be a clear boundary when it comes to player privacy.

The Sky have been in the headlines all week, but not always for the best reasons. Carter’s hit on Clark stirred up a hornet’s nest of debate about Clark’s reception in the WNBA. Reese jumped into the fray on Monday, claiming she’s one of the catalysts for the surge in women’s basketball’s popularity.

Tuesday saw Reese’s ejection dominate the conversation once more, overshadowing their loss.

Now, the Sky have a golden opportunity to redirect the spotlight back to their game and snap out of their slump. With the Mystics floundering at 0-9, losing three of their last four games by double digits, Thursday’s match could be just what they need to get back on track.
