Rajkumar Santoshi is currently gearing up for his upcoming directorial Lahore 1947. On the 17th of February, it was reported that the filmmaker had been sentenced to two years in jail in a cheque-bouncing case. He was also ordered by the court to pay twice the amount to the complainant for not appearing before the court.
As per a report by Bollywood Hungama, Santoshi has broken silence on the ongoing legal fiasco. He said, “It is nothing, don’t worry about it. This is a farzi case. No dum in it at all. It’s a price one must pay for being in the limelight. Since you are a name, news is quickly made out of non-news.”
When asked if he was going to jail and if the case was easily solvable, the director said that his lawyers were on it. He is least bothered about this problem. He trusts the judiciary completely.
Rajkumar said that he is currently working on his upcoming directorial Lahore 1947. Shabanji will also be joining the shoot from today. He hasn’t worked with her before and it will be an insightful experience.
Santoshi’s lawyer Binesh Patel stated that they will appeal against the magistrate court’s judgement. He remarked, “First of all, the court has stayed its judgement for 30 days granted Mr. Santoshi bail after we sought time to appeal against the judgement at a higher forum.”
Moreover, he even said that the petitioner hadn’t presented any document evidence that Rajkumar had taken money from him.
The lawyer even stated that he didn’t directly loan the money to Rajkumar Santoshi. There was a third party negotiating in between.
It was also the third party that assured and gave 10 cheques of Rs 10 lakes each. These claims were overlooked by the Magistrate court and the judgement was passed against them. Therefore they will appeal to the higher court and present these highlighted points.
