In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to lift the ban on Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) with immediate effect. The ban, imposed on November 10, 2023, stemmed from SLC’s violation of obligations as an ICC Member, specifically failing to manage its affairs autonomously and preventing government interference in cricket governance in Sri Lanka.

The ICC Board convened on November 21 to address the issue, allowing Sri Lanka to resume international participation in both bilateral series and ICC events. However, the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, initially scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka, has been relocated to South Africa.

Following thorough monitoring of the situation, the ICC Board has determined that SLC has rectified the breaches of membership obligations, paving the way for Sri Lanka’s complete reinstatement into international cricket.
