After CBI have taken over SSR‘s case, the whole nation awaits for the truth to reveal. Meanwhile media houses have been catering to bring every little update related to the case and some unknownly might have started with there own investigation which is leading to fake news. Taking a strong stand on this behaviour of media outlets, the Press Council of India said on Friday that proper journalistic norms should be followed while covering the news and they should not carry out there own “parallel trials”.
The council has said exclusively to TOI that, “The coverage by the alleged suicide of the film actor by many outlets is violation of the norms of journalistic conduct” and thereby, media is supposed to adhere to certain norms and rules.
According to PCI, gossips and stories can create unnecessary pressure in the fair investigation which might hinder the trial.
“The media is advised to refrain from giving excessive publicity to the victim, the witnesses, suspect and accused as it will amount to invasion of their privacy rights”, the PCI told Times of India.
The reporting of the actor’s suicide by some newspapers is also violation to journalistic norms, the PCI added. The PCI has also asked media not to use sensational headlines and pictures, video tapes while reporting the case.
Actress Rhea Chakraborty has been accused of SSR’s suicide case by his father KK Singh and CBI is on board to investigate. The actor was found hanging in his Bandra apartment on 14th June.
Recently, Rhea Chakraborty has answered to all accusations charged on her.
