The specter of age fraud resurfaces in Indian cricket as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) takes decisive action against Sumit Sharma from Odisha. He has been prohibited from participating in domestic tournaments following the discovery of discrepancies in the player’s documents.

The BCCI disciplinary committee has acted against Sharma for presenting counterfeit age certificates, leading to repercussions for his involvement in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 with the Odisha cricket team. As an all-rounder, Sharma was found culpable of submitting multiple false age certificates, with variations between the one presented to the Odisha cricket team and the one submitted during the 2015-16 season.
