The chief of the right-wing Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, was shot and killed by unknown assailants in Jaipur on Tuesday. Three attackers broke into Gogamedi’s home in the Shyam Nagar neighborhood and started shooting. One of Gogamedi’s security guards was hurt during the altercation, and retaliatory gunfire killed one of the attackers.
The Lawrence Bishnoi-Goldy Brar gang member Rohit Godara claimed responsibility for the incident in a Facebook post. Godara claimed that they chose to attack Gogamedi because of suspected collaboration with their competitors. Later, CCTV evidence came to light, showing the Karni Sena chief being shot many times by two guys.
The incident was verified by Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph, who said that Gogamedi was brought to a private hospital before passing away from his wounds. After being kicked out of Shri Rajput Karni Sena in 2015, Gogamedi started Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena.
The 2018 movie “Padmaavat” sparked protests from both Karni Sena groups, who said the film misrepresented historical facts regarding the Rajput community. Supporters and members of the Rajput community congregated outside Gogamedi’s home and the hospital after the incident.
For a long time, Gogamedi was allegedly threatened, and his followers called for immediate arrests. Meanwhile, Godara, known for extortion rackets in Rajasthan, is implicated in various crimes, including the murder of gangster Raju Thehat and the killing of rapper Sidhu Moose Wala in Punjab last year.
