After Vivek Johri’s retirement on July 31, the centre on Saturday named India Revenue Service officer Sanjay Kumar Agarwal (C&IT:88) as the next Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs. Since March 1, 2022, Sanjay Kumar Agarwal has served as a member (investigation) of the CBIC board.
Surjit Bhujabal, a senior IRS official, has also been named a member of the CBIC’s investigating team. In November 2022, Bhujbal, an IRS official from the 1989 batch, was employed by the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), the top intelligence agency operating under the CBIC, Department of Revenue, and Ministry of Finance.
The following has received approval from the Cabinet’s Appointments Committee:
- The election of Shri Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, IRS(C&IT:1988), Member, to the position of Chairman, Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC).
- The position of Member, CBIC has been filled by Shri Surjit Bhujabal, IRS (C&IT:1989), Principal Director General, DGGI, Delhi, in place of Shri Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, IRS (C&IT:1988).
From the position of Principal Director General, DGGI, Shri Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, IRS, was appointed as a member of the CBIC in 2022.
