External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday reassured that India is committed to strengthening its relations with Tanzania as he held a series of ‘comprehensive and productive’ talks with his counterpart to create a pathway to uplift bilateral talks over various sectors such as trade.
Jaishankar met the Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Corporation Dr. Stergomena Tax in the 10th India-Tanzania joint congress meeting.
S Jaishankar in his Tweet said, “Comprehensive and productive meeting of the 10th India-Tanzania Joint Commission on Economic, Technical and Scientific Cooperation today in Dar es Salaam. Thank my co- chair FM Dr. Stergomena Tax.” He further added that his discussions with Tax covered a wide range of topics like politics, trade and investment, development partnership, capacity building, Defence and security, agriculture, health, education, skill and ICT development, energy, mining, blue economy, people-to-people and cultural relations.
In his statement Jaishankar said that India and Tanzania’s relation has been strong and bonded by high-level visits, agreements and robust economic engagement, growing development cooperation, and excellent cooperation in the multilateral forum.
Jaishankar’s opening remarks were, “For us, Tanzania is the fourth-largest trade partner in Africa. It is the biggest development partner in the continent, and I am truly pleased that the current momentum is now developing into a growing cooperation, and I would like to reaffirm India’s commitment to strengthen and deepen our relations with Tanzania.”
Focusing on the bilateral engagements he said the two countries witnessed an increasing political cooperation and broadening of trade basket despite challenges like Covid-19 and disturbances in other parts of the world.
As per the statement issued by Ministry of External Affairs the bilateral trades between India and Tanzania have crossed new heights and figures infact show USD 6.4 billion that India is investing in Tanzania. Jaishankar also thanked the Tanzania Government for their cooperation.
While concluding his address he said, “I’m very confident that today’s meeting would help to make our relationship more contemporary. It would allow us to fashion a new agenda for us to take forward. And certainly, the political leaderships in both our countries expect that the foreign ministries would create the pathway to take our relationship to a higher level.”
EAM Jaishankar returned to India after his visit to Tanzanian capital Zanzibar.
