The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the complete schedule for the highly anticipated Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup 2023. With ten teams participating, this edition promises to be the largest World Cup event ever, spanning across ten venues from October 5 to November 19.
The tournament will kick off at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, which will also host the final match. Other cities that will witness thrilling encounters include Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune. Practice games will take place in Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, and Hyderabad.
Of particular interest is the clash between cricketing rivals India and Pakistan, set to take place in Ahmedabad on October 15. India’s journey will include matches against Australia and Afghanistan, while Pakistan will open their campaign against two qualifiers before facing their arch-rivals.
Notably, if both teams qualify for the semi-finals, Pakistan will play their match in Kolkata due to security concerns raised by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Additionally, the ICC outlined specific conditions, stating that the West Indies will be designated as “Qualifier 1” and Sri Lanka as “Qualifier 2” regardless of their finishing positions in the qualifiers. With the stage set, cricket enthusiasts worldwide eagerly await the commencement of the 2023 World Cup.
