With the announcement of the Indian squad for the WI tour, it has been made sure that the Hitman Rohit Sharma is fit to play and will lead the Indian team in both the ODI. The inclusion of Rohit Sharma was in doubt due to his performance in the recent matches and it was believed that he would not lead the team for this tour.
The Indian skipper has played 236 ODI innings and has scored 9825 runs which consists of 48 half-centuries, 3 double centuries, and 30 centuries with an average of 48.64. The stats of the Indian skipper are enough to tell how much of an impact player he is for the Indian team but in the recent events, the performance of the Indian skipper has not been very effective.
The selectors have also included youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Ishan Kishan for the Indian team. The management might think of demoting the Indian skipper in the middle order and giving the chance of opening to the youngsters like Kishan and Jaiswal who can provide a left-right combination with Shubman Gill.
The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma debuted his career as a middle-order batsman for India and in 2013 he debuted his career as an opener, after that the spot is taken by him till now. He has scored 80 percent of his ODI runs as an opener.
He averages 58.11 as an opener and 31.72 as a middle-order batsman. He has scored only two centuries in the middle order which came against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka in which he scored 114 and 101 respectively. The stats of Rohit Sharma show that he performs well while opening rather than in the middle order.
Viewing the performance of Rohit Sharma in the recent matches the Indian management could think of demoting the Indian skipper in the middle order hence strengthening the middle order and giving the youngsters the chance of opening but it might affect the performance of the Indian skipper.
