The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the Test and ODI squads for India’s upcoming tour of the West Indies. With an eye on the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, the selection committee has included several new faces. However, pacer Arshdeep Singh’s name was notably absent from the squads, indicating that he is not in India’s World Cup plans.
Arshdeep Singh, who last played an ODI match in November, has faced challenges with his line and length in recent series. His consistent no-balls in critical moments during matches against Sri Lanka and New Zealand left both Hardik Pandya and Rahul Dravid frustrated.
The pace bowling attack for the ODI series will be spearheaded by the impressive Mohammed Siraj. Additionally, Umran Malik and Mukesh Kumar have earned recalls to the side.
The squad selections suggest that the BCCI is focused on building a competitive team for the ODI World Cup, and Arshdeep Singh’s omission indicates that he currently does not fit into their plans for the tournament.
India’s ODI Squad: Rohit Sharma (Capt), Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Surya Kumar Yadav, Sanju Samson (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya (VC), Shardul Thakur, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar.
