Om Raut’s Adipurush, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, debuted to great success at the box office, grossing Rs 140 crore globally. Two days after its release, the movie reportedly joined the Rs 200 crore club, according to a number of media outlets and industry observers.
In many regions of the country, the movie’s release was marked by much fanfare, and the enthusiasm is evident in the box office take. Adipurush, however, has came under fire for having “cringeworthy” speech and “poor VFX.”
The movie, which reportedly cost over Rs 500 crore to make, has drawn mixed reactions from both reviewers and viewers.
Ramesh Bala, a trade analyst, claims that Adipurush has performed well in both Hindi and Telugu. After surpassing the Rs 200 crore milestone globally, it is aiming for a strong Sunday.
Adipurush had a successful opening weekend in Hindi, grossing Rs 37 crore over two days. Adipurush’s second-day revenue in the Telugu states was Rs 26 crore.
With that, the movie joined the company of some of the greatest opening weekends ever, including “War,” “Pathaan,” and “Brahmastra.”
Given the buzz and advance reservations for “Adipurush,” the movie is anticipated to have a record-breaking weekend; given the astonishing price tag the project has been mounted on, this could provide some relief for the creators.
Since the film’s inception, “Adipurush” has been dogged by controversy, and now that it is finally available for viewers to see in theatres, it has ignited an even larger discussion.
Many political figures and Hindu organisations have criticised the producers, charging them of misrepresenting the Ramayana and doing a bad job with the visual effects and language.
The Delhi High Court has also received a PIL over the incorrect portrayal of Hanuman and Ravan.
Not only that, but producers are allegedly paying netizens to remove their bad ratings and promote the movie in exchange for positive reviews.
