Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh hailed Hardik Pandya for his fantastic all-around performance against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday.
Pandya excelled with the bat and the ball as India defeated their arch-rivals by five wickets to start the tournament on a victorious note.
Harbhajan Singh praised the brilliant all-rounder for his match-winning feats and compared him to the legendary MS Dhoni. He also endorsed him to follow Dhoni as India’s captain in the future. In the final over of India’s run chase, with six runs needed off the final three balls, Hardik displayed Dhoni-like composure.
“He should, and I believe he will, become captain. He has recently displayed a different avatar. He has become a calm and serene figure akin to MS Dhoni. He is batting extremely well and is quite confident in his ability,” Harbhajan Singh stated on SportsTak.
“When he goes out to bat, there is a different level of swag. He has worked so hard and returned to action that he knows he will be able to do the job and win games for India,” Harbhajan said.
“I do see him becoming captain of India. The way he showcased his temperament during the match against Pakistan, and during the IPL as well, was brilliant. I think he has got all the capabilities to be the national team’s captain going forward,” he added.
