The Indian Embassy in Ukraine released a statement on Saturday advising citizens not to travel to any border checkpoints without first consulting with Indian authorities at the border posts and the embassy.

The embassy said in its statement, “The situation at various border checkpoints is sensitive and the Embassy is working continuously with our Embassies in our neighbouring countries for coordinated evacuation of our citizens. The embassy is finding it increasingly difficult to help the crossing of those Indian nationals who reach border checkpoints without prior Intimation.”

The embassy stated that the western cities of Ukraine are safer and that it is thus preferable to stay in safe areas there rather than going to border checks without prior notification. It also recommended that remaining in western Ukrainian cities with access to water, food, lodging, and basic facilities is safer and more advisable than crossing border checks without being fully informed about the situation.

Those in need of help should contact the MEA Control Room at 1800118797 (toll-free), +91 11 23012113, +91 11 23014104, and +91 11 23017905, or through email at [email protected], according to the Minister of External Affairs.

They also advised all persons who are now in the Eastern sector to keep calm and stay indoors or in shelters as much as possible, with whatever food, drink, and utilities are available, and to wait for future orders.
