Top leaders of the Communist Party of Nepal seeked Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s resignation over his remarks on India being “politically incorrect and diplomatically inappropriate”. In a closed door standing committee meeting on Tuesday, three former Prime Ministers and the former Deputy Prime Minister urged PM Oli to either provide evidence of the accusation put on India or resign from the office.
The list of officials voicing against PM Oli’s allegation against India include Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachananda, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhalnath Khanal and the former Deputy PM Bamdeb Gautam. They also accused the Prime Minister of being insensitive and irresponsible in his remarks against a friendly country, reports indianexpress.com.
This backlash from the party leaders comes after the Nepalese Prime Minister’s statement where he alleged that the Indian government is plotting against him.
Speaking at a program on Sunday, Nepal’s PM Oli accused India for inciting his enemies against him. “Look at the meetings being organized in Delhi” he stated expressing his concern over the dissent shown by India over Nepal’s decision to amend the constitution to include Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura as a part of their territory.
Since this decision of amendment, the Indian government has not been assertive of Nepal’s move and alleged that the “The artificial enlargement of claims is not based on historical facts or evidence and is not tenable”.
The Prime Minister of Nepal, in his statement on Sunday, also tried to draw the public attention to the various kinds of activities being held at “hotels and embassies” to overturn him from power. While substantiating his accusation, he said, “How come the accounts of a confidential meeting are getting reported verbatim in the Indian media?”
“Such a statement made by the prime minister may damage our relations with our neighbor” stated Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairman of the Nepal Communist Party. He also emphasized on the need of the party to follow ‘one man, one position’ as he shares the Chair with the PM himself, who is also the party chief.
Throughout the meeting, all the four top party leaders have been in harmony in urging the PM to prove the very serious accusations imposed by him on a friendly neighbour or quit as the Prime Minister and the Party Chief. This is the second time that PM Oli is being asked to resign by the top leaders of his party.
