South African cricketer, Anrich Nortje gets nominated for the T20I bowling performance of the year at the ESPNcricinfo awards.
The right-arm fast bowler attains his nomination after his outstanding bowling against West Indies in T20 World Cup 2021 held in the UAE.
During the match against West Indies on 26 October 2021, Nortje took 1 for 14. A bowler taking only one wicket rarely gains a nomination for T20I bowling performance of the year. But Norje’s highlighting moment was his four overs against West Indies and how he stuck to his strengths. He bowled no cutters and two slow balls, for the rest of the innings, he bowled it at around 150kph, beating the West Indies top order batters with his remarkable pace.
West Indies’ right-handed batsman, Lendl Simmons was struggling to 16 runs of 35 balls after Nortje troubled him in his first overs. And at the death overs, Nortje went to his yorker to get a wicket huge wicket of West Indies All-rounder, Andre Russel. He finished with 14 dots in 24 deliveries to limit West Indies to 143.
The 28-year-old made his international debut for the South African team in March 2019. In July 2020, Nortje was named as the newcomer of the year at Cricket South Africa’s annual awards ceremony.
