In the first match of India in ICC Under-19 World Cup, India scored 232 runs in 46.5 overs. Skipper, Yash Dhull, led from the front, playing outstanding innings of 82 runs in 100 balls, smashing 11 boundaries.

With South Africa winning the toss and deciding to bowl, India was forced to bat first at the Providence Stadium, Guyana. Aphiwe Mnyanda was bowling fiercely and got the crucial wickets of Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Harnoor Singh in the powerplay. Shaik Rasheed and Yash Dhull made a critical 71 runs partnership to bring India back on track and take India’s score to 82 runs in 19.4 overs.

Nishant Sindhu looked pleasing at the crease and scored quick 27 runs off 25 balls, striking five boundaries until Micheal Copeland’s classic delivery. Copeland bowled a stunning delivery to beat Nishant, and then Kaden Solomons performed a quick stumping to send Nishant back to the pavilion. Kaushal Tambe came in to bat at five and scored vital 35 runs in 44 balls, hitting five fours to take India’s score to 232.

The batters were getting good starts, but none could convert them into a fifty or a century other than Yash Dhull, who got run out by Andile Simelane, missing his first World Cup century by just 18 runs.

For South Africa, Matthew Boast bowled magnificently with a bowling figure of 40/3 in 9 overs. Other bowlers to take wickets for South Africa were Aphiwe Mnyanda (2 wickets), Dewald Brevis(2 wickets), Liam Alder(1 wicket), and Micheal Copeland(1 wicket).

With India having a terrific bowling attack, India would look forward to restricting South Africa from chasing this score and winning their mega event’s first match.
