Massive upset for India as PV missed a bid for the country’s first-ever badminton gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. She lost to Taiwan’s Tzu Ying Tai at the semi-finals battle at the women’s singles badminton event. The Indian lost in straight sets 18-21, 12-21 on Sunday.

PV Sindhu had beaten world number five Akane Yamaguchi of the hosting country in 56 minutes and a 54-shot long rally to reach this level at the semifinals.
The Taiwanese entirely dominated against trailing Sindhu in the second set following her first set win which was hard-fought.
Reigning world champion Sindhu had aimed to conserve India’s first badminton gold medal will now play in the chase for a bronze medal and will be in action on Sunday against He Bing Jiao of China in the third-place play-off at Musashino Forest Plaza.
Sindhu has won a silver medal at the Rio Games. It was her 14th failure to the second-seeded Tai Tzu-Ying in their nineteen gatherings. The 26-year-old Indian had also got defeated by her in the previous three meetings.
“When a player couldn’t come into the rhythm this all happens. Yesterday, she was in a good rhythm and was able to come back and catch Akane Yamaguchi. Today, Tai Tzu-Ying has not given her any chance at all,” said PV Sindhu’s father PV Ramana to ANI in Hyderabad.
