India is hoping for a strong show at the Tokyo Olympic Games, which are being hosted a year later than planned because of the Covid-19 outbreak. Several medal contenders can be found in different sports.
A charter Air India jet will take the first batch of the Indian contingent to Tokyo. Even though the Indian Olympic Association has yet to formally reveal the size of the contingent, more than 120 competitors are expected to compete.
The Tokyo Olympics will be hosted under a state of emergency in Japan from July 23 to August 8, with no spectators, due to the raging COVID-19 cases. The Indian Olympic Association revealed a few days ago that legendary boxer MC Mary Kom and Indian men’s hockey team captain Manpreet Singh will be the joint flag-bearers for India during the Games.
