The last movie he directed was a commercial success, ‘Aye Dil Hain Mushkil.’ On Monday, Karan made an announcement that got everyone excited. he announced that he will be getting back to “his primary passion” – “behind the camera” and shared his excitement about doing what he “adores” the most – “love stories.”
Today, Karan Johar announced his next project starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.’ The movie also stars veteran actress’ Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi and legendary actor Dharmendra. The love story will revolve around family and love.
On Monday, Karan had shared a post on his social media handles and had revealed he will be announcing an upcoming project. He wrote, “This is the beginning of a new journey & my way back home – all at once. It’s time to go back to my favourite place, it’s time to create some eternal love stories from behind the lens. A very special story, truly immersed in the roots of love and family. Announcing my next film tomorrow at 11 am, watch this space for more! @DharmaMovies @apoorva1972”.
Today, announcing the movie Karan shared, “Thrilled to get behind the lens with my favourite people in front of it! Presenting Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, headlined by none other than Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt and written by Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan & Sumit Roy. This anokhi kahani is coming to your screens in 2022!”

According to the reports by Bollywood Hungama, Alia is said to play the role of Rani while Ranveer will essay the role of Rocky. A source close to Bollywood Hungama has also informed that veteran actor Dharmendra and actress Shabana are going to play Alia’s grandparents. Jaya Bachchan is said to essay the role of Ranveer Singh’s grandmother. This project will bring Dharmendra and Shabana Azmiback on-screen together after their first film in 1988, ‘Mardon Wali Baat.’
