India is desperately trying to get a hold of the Covid-19 situation in the country. In his address to the nation on Tuesday evening, PM Narendra Modi has urged the states and their respective authorities to consider lockdowns only as a last option. He also mentioned that the focus should be on creating micro containment zones.

In his address, he has also requested the State governments to urge the workers to stay where they are. “This trust given by the states to the workers will help them, and that they will be vaccinated in the city where they are,” PM Narendra Modi added.

On the administrative front, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also interacted with vaccine manufacturers on Tuesday evening. The recent development comes a day after India made everyone above 18 eligible for the jab.
Detailing about India’s attempt to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, PM Modi emphasized over the nations two ‘made in India’ vaccines that have started the world’s largest vaccination program. Hitherto, more than 12 crore vaccine doses have been administered.

India has reportedly seen a decline in its health care system as several states saw an unprecedented rise in the demand for medical supplies – leading to the shortage of oxygen, Remdesivir, and lack of beds in hospitals.
In an attempt to take a firm hold over the rising Covid-19 cases, PM Modi highlighted that efforts are being made to increase the number of beds in hospitals. He also mentioned that large COVID-19 dedicated hospitals are being built in some of the large cities.

Over the weekend, Chief Ministers of Delhi, Maharashtra, West Bengal, amongst others highlighted the shortage of health care in their respective states and urged the centre to provide the essential medical supplies.
Following the requests, PM Modi in his address on Tuesday assured of Centre, State government and private sectors struggle to make the oxygen available and those who are in need of it.
“The demand for oxygen has increased in many parts of the country. The Centre, state govt, private sector are trying to make oxygen available to all those who are in need of it. Many steps are being taken in this direction”, PM Modi asserted.

PM Modi on Tuesday expressed his condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones due to COVID and announced, “We are facing the second wave of COVID19 now.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed off by reminding his fellow citizens that the “challenge before is big”. But “we have to overcome it with our resolve, courage and preparation,” added PM Modi.

The address by PM Modi was held after India reported 2.59 lakh new coronavirus cases and 1,761 deaths in the last 24 hours.
The total number of cases has spiked to 1.53 crore while the death toll went up to 1.80 lakh while the active number of cases in the country stands at 20.31 lakh, stated that the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday.
In the last 24 hours, 1.54 lakh recovered from the infection. With this, the total recoveries reached 1.31 crore. Daily covid cases in India had jumped a record 2.73 lakh on Monday.
