On Saturday, April 17, Former Karnataka Chief Minister took his Twitter handle to share the news about him being infected with COVID-19.

JDS leader H D Kumaraswamy tweeted– “I have tested positive for COVID-19. I request everyone who came in close contact with me over the last few days to isolate themselves and get tested.”

In last 24 hours, Karnataka reported 4,027 new cases and the number of deaths recorded are 78.

In the last 24 hours, India reported 2,34,692 new COVID-19 cases and reached the milestone of highest single day surge and 1,23,354 patients got discharge, while 1,341 people died of this deadly virus. Total active cases in India is now around 16.7 lakhs. Total death toll in India reached to 1,75,649.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) released that 26,49,72,022 samples were tested up to April 17 including 14,95,397 samples tested yesterday. Total vaccination: 11,99,37,641.

The total vaccinations across the country have approached nearly 12 crore mark with more than 26.14 lakh vaccine doses administered till 8 pm on 16th April.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the ongoing Kumbh in Haridwar should now have symbolic participation due to the COVID-19 crisis. Narendra Modi tweeted that he spoke to Swami Avdheshanand Giri of Juna Akhara over telephone and enquired about the health of saints, many of whom have contracted the infection, and also conveyed his appreciation for their cooperation with the local administration.

On Friday, Centre also announced a plan to double the production of Vaccine by May-June the COVAXIN production capacity of Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech Centre also grants of Rs 65 crore for building a new production facility in Bengaluru.
