On Tuesday, during the televised presidential debate in Ohio, US President Donald Trump defended his contributions during the pandemic in response to his Democratic opponent, former US Vice President Joe Biden, who said, “Seven million (have) contracted the virus. The President has no plan.”
Biden accused Trump of giving false information regarding contributions towards the pandemic. “The fact is that everything he is saying so far is simply a lie. I’m not here to call out his lies. Everybody knows he’s a liar,” Biden said. “How many people here woke up this morning and had an empty stool at the kitchen counter because someone died of COVID?”
Biden also asked Trump to pause interruptions which were reported to be angry outbursts.
Trump countered saying that “millions could have died without his actions.”
“When you talk about figures you don’t know how many people died in China, you don’t know how many people died in Russia, you don’t know how many people died in India,” Trump said in Cleveland, Ohio. “They don’t give you an exact, straight count.”
The United States of America has recorded the most number of positive COVID-19 cases in the world. More than 200,000 people have passed away.
The contending debate provoked tension within the first few minutes, with the candidates interrupting each other continuously.
