In a case, Tata Consultancy Service(TCS) was help by the United States court for punitive damages of 280 million dollars in trade secret lawsuit which was filed by the American Medical software company Epic systems.
However, the court in chicago upheld compensatory damages award of Rs 140 million dollars, TCS said in regulatory filings at stock exchanges on Friday.
Further TCS said it is exploring the options to it, adding it has an opinion of that the Epic company is not having any evidence misusing its information. “TCS will vigorously defend its position before the court relevant court,” it said.
According to its report, Epic sofware company has filed the lawsuit case against TCS in 2014 alleging that the IT service company had stolen its intellectual property. In 2016 Epic won the Jury award of 940 million dollors.
To comply with the punitive damages, the Wisconsin court judge in 2017 lower the amount to 420 million dollors. In January 2018, TCS said it made a 440 million dollars letter of credit available to Epic System.
In the month of March the Wisconsin judge who firstly heard the case deducted the amount but upheld the verdict following an initial appeal by TCS. Later TCS filed a notice of appeal to the seventh Circuit Court in Chicago.
