The United Kingdom is “now seeing a second wave” of COVID-19, PM Boris Johnson said, adding “it’s been inevitable we’d see it in this country.”

British PM said although he did not “want to go into bigger lockdown measures”, tighter social distancing restrictions may be needed.

Earlier, new rules were confirmed for Merseyside, Lancashire, parts of the Midlands and West Yorkshire.

It also comes as the island country recorded over 4000 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Speaking in Oxfordshire, Mr Johnson said: “As we look at this particular curve and what is happening now, clearly we are going to keep everything under review. I don’t want to get into a second national lockdown at all, it is the last thing anybody wants.”
