The United Kingdom announced that it would ban all the ships coming from Russia and will not be allowed to dock in its ports. The UK is increasing its efforts constantly to cripple the Russian ambitions in the wake of the Ukraine crisis Putin started.
In his Tweet, British Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced the ban and urged all his counterparts to do the same. To completely ban any Russian ship to dock in their ports. Shapps stated that the UK became the first sovereign to have passed such a severe sanction on Russian ships from gaining access to their ports.
This decision came in accordance with Scotland’s first minister, Nicola Sturgeon directed Grant Shapps to completely block access to a Russian tanker from docking in the Islands of Orkney, the Russian ship was to reach on Tuesday. The Sovcomflot is a Russian state-run company and it owns NS Champion which is designed to transport oil products, LNG, Oil.
For several days now since the start of the Russian invasion in Ukraine on 24th February, the western bloc has levied several sanctions on Russia, on Putin and their oligarchs to bring the war to an end. Interestingly till now, the UK has not yet levied any sanctions on Sovcomflot which owns NS Champion.
