Annual inflation in the United Kingdom remained unchanged at 3.8% in August, matching analysts’ expectations, according to data released by the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) on Tuesday.

The largest upward pressure came from the education sector, where prices surged 7.5%, unchanged from the previous month. This was followed by communication services, which rose 6.1%, and housing and household services, which increased 6%. Prices of alcohol and tobacco also climbed faster than in July, advancing 5.9%.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices were 0.3% higher in August. Meanwhile, the Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers’ housing costs (CPIH) rose 4.1% year-on-year, slightly lower than the 4.2% recorded in July.

The latest data indicates that while inflationary pressures persist in key sectors, headline inflation continues to stabilize in line with expectations.
