Wisconsin’s governor Tony Evers declared a state of emergency Tuesday after protesters set dozens of buildings on fire and vandalized businesses in the city where a Black man was shot multiple times by police.

“We cannot allow the cycle of systemic racism and injustice to continue,” said Tony Evers, who is facing pressure from Republicans over his handling of the unrest that has followed the shooting.

The shooting of Jacob Blake, 29, on Sunday in Kenosha reignited new protests over racial injustice in several cities, just three months after the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police.
