President Donald Trump announced today that authorities have apprehended a suspect in the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Speaking to Fox News, Trump said, “With a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody,” adding that someone close to the suspect had turned him in. Officials are expected to provide a formal update later today.

Charlie Kirk, 31, was fatally shot on Wednesday during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Authorities confirmed that the shooting was a targeted attack.

Following the incident, the FBI released new surveillance footage showing the suspect fleeing the scene and asked the public for help in identifying the individual. A $100,000 reward was offered for information leading to an arrest. Authorities later recovered a high-powered, bolt-action rifle used in the attack from a nearby wooded area.

Utah officials have described the shooting as politically motivated. President Trump’s announcement comes amid heightened concern over political violence in the United States. The suspect’s identity and motive have not yet been publicly released.
