The United States is reportedly considering launching strikes against suspected drug-smuggling facilities inside Venezuela, amid rising tensions between Washington and Caracas. According to a report by the Miami Herald, President Donald Trump’s administration could expand its ongoing operations against Latin American drug cartels to include direct military action on Venezuelan soil.
Sources cited in the report claim that the US has already designated major cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, and the proposed strikes would target Venezuelan military locations allegedly used in narcotics trafficking. The move would also seek to weaken President Nicolás Maduro’s position and prevent him from leaving the country, the report said.
The development comes as US forces continue monitoring and acting against vessels suspected of drug-smuggling activity in the Caribbean. With geopolitical friction growing and strategic pressure mounting on Maduro’s government, reports suggest the potential operation could take place at any time.
The Venezuelan government has not issued an immediate response to the report.
