President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs for most countries, reducing them to a universal rate of 10%. The move marks a temporary retreat from the administration’s aggressive trade policy, which had sparked market volatility and raised concerns over global supply chains.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the changes, stating that the tariff rate would be uniformly applied at 10% for all countries except China. This marks a significant reduction for several U.S. trading partners, easing trade tensions in the short term.
However, the policy shift does not extend to China. In response to a new wave of retaliatory measures from Beijing, Trump declared that tariffs on Chinese exports would increase sharply to 125%. The administration framed the move as a direct response to China’s trade actions.
