President Donald J. Trump has once again taken to Truth Social to sharply criticize the United States’ policy of birthright citizenship, calling it outdated and harmful to American interests. In his latest post, Trump declared:
“We are the only Country in the World STUPID enough to allow “Birthright” Citizenship!”
The statement comes amid ongoing legal battles over Trump’s executive order aimed at limiting automatic citizenship for children born in the U.S. to certain non-citizen parents. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments in the high-profile case Trump v. Barbara on April 1, 2026.
What Did Trump Say in His Truth Social Post?
In the full context of his recent Truth Social rant, President Trump argued that birthright citizenship (also known as jus soli or “right of the soil”) was originally intended for the children of formerly enslaved people following the Civil War and the ratification of the 14th Amendment in 1868. He claimed it is now being exploited by “rich people from China and the rest of the World” through so-called birth tourism, where families travel to the U.S. specifically so their children can gain American citizenship.
Trump wrote:
“Birthright Citizenship is not about rich people from China… who want their children… FOR PAY, to ridiculously become citizens of the United States of America. It is about the BABIES OF SLAVES! We are the only Country in the World that dignifies this subject with even discussion… The World is getting rich selling citizenships to our Country, while at the same time laughing at how STUPID our U.S. Court System has become.”
He also took aim at the judiciary, adding, “Dumb Judges and Justices will not a great Country make!” while linking the issue to broader concerns like tariffs and national sovereignty.
