Former U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated that China may soon enter a large-scale oil and gas agreement with Alaska, marking a potential energy cooperation breakthrough between the two nations. Speaking after his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea, Trump said energy teams from both sides “will be meeting to see if such a deal can be worked out.”

This comes alongside Trump’s earlier announcement that U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods would be reduced to 10% from 57% following progress in trade discussions and Beijing’s commitments on fentanyl control and critical minerals supply.

Trump’s Truth Social statement

In a detailed post, Trump said the meeting with Xi “delivered prosperity and security for millions of Americans” and suggested multiple economic agreements may follow. He highlighted:

  • China to purchase “massive amounts of soybeans, sorghum and other farm products”

  • Beijing to continue rare earth and critical mineral exports to the U.S.

  • China to help stop fentanyl flows into America

  • Talks on major oil and gas purchase from Alaska

“Our Farmers will be very happy! … China has agreed to continue the flow of Rare Earth, Critical Minerals, Magnets, etc., openly and freely.
A very large-scale transaction may take place concerning the purchase of Oil and Gas from the Great State of Alaska,” Trump posted.

Trump also said farmers should “buy more land and larger tractors,” echoing remarks made during his first administration.

Agriculture, energy & trade alignment

The developments follow Trump’s comment that the U.S. and China are “very close to resolving” major issues and that remaining matters of “high importance” are nearing agreement. Washington has also indicated ongoing talks related to semiconductor supply and cooperation with companies like Nvidia.

The Alaska energy statement marks one of the most significant potential components of the emerging U.S.–China economic reset, which now includes:

  • Tariffs cut to 10%

  • Farm exports boost

  • Rare-earth supply guarantee

  • Anti-fentanyl cooperation

  • Proposed U.S. energy deal

Trump added that “hundreds of billions of dollars” are being returned to the U.S. economy following diplomatic talks in Asia.
