United States President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that Ukraine is seeking to “go offensive” against Russia, and confirmed that he will discuss the ongoing conflict during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House this Friday.
“I’ll make a determination on that,” Trump said, referring to Ukraine’s intent to pursue renewed military operations. His remarks came shortly after Ukraine’s defense minister announced that Kyiv will continue to target Russian oil refineries using long-range drones — a move expected to further escalate tensions between the two countries.
In September, Trump had said that Ukraine could regain all territories lost to Russia since the invasion began. Later, he suggested he would consider supplying Tomahawk missiles to Kyiv, prompting sharp warnings from Moscow, which said such actions would be seen as direct escalation.
Trump’s upcoming meeting with Zelensky is expected to focus on military aid, ceasefire prospects, and future U.S.-Ukraine cooperation, amid Washington’s balancing act between deterring Russia and managing global security concerns.
