The National Weather Service (NWS) in Omaha has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for parts of Iowa and Nebraska, including northwestern Mills County and southwestern Pottawattamie County in Iowa. The alert was issued early Saturday and follows a stretch of dangerous heat in the region.

Friday saw high temperatures in the 90s, with heat indices between 105° and 110°, prompting a heat advisory for eastern Nebraska and western Iowa from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Residents were urged to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities.

Isolated thunderstorms developed late Friday evening and continued into Saturday morning, bringing the potential for wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail of around 1 inch, and heavy rainfall. Another round of storms could occur late Saturday into early Sunday, with the strongest activity expected after 10 p.m. in the Omaha metro area.

Forecasters have placed the region under a marginal risk for severe weather, meaning storms may be limited in coverage but could still produce damaging winds and hail.
