Omaha, Nebraska – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Omaha has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for parts of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa, as storms sweep through the region early Saturday morning. The warning includes northwestern Mills County and southwestern Pottawattamie County in Iowa, with the potential for wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail of around 1 inch, and heavy rainfall.
The storms have already caused significant disruptions. According to Lincoln Electric System (LES), more than 28,000 customers are without power as of early Saturday, with the utility warning that new outages may occur as the weather system continues to move through the area. LES is urging residents to report outages via LES.com/Outage and to stay indoors until conditions improve.

The current forecast shows storm chances continuing into Sunday morning, with the highest risk for strong to severe thunderstorms after 10 p.m. Saturday in the Omaha metro area. Earlier in the week, Friday’s dangerous heat—with temperatures in the 90s and heat indices up to 110°—prompted a heat advisory for the region.
Residents are advised to monitor weather alerts, avoid travel during severe conditions, and prepare for potential extended outages.
