On Friday, the UN human rights office said the images of the shooting of Black man Jacob Blake appeared to show that the police officer had used “excessive” force.

“From the images available that we’ve seen at this point, the police appear to have used force against Jacob Blake that would seem to be excessive,” Spokesperson for the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Rupert Colville, said at a virtual briefing in Geneva.

“It also seems highly possible that the force used against Blake could be discriminatory in nature,” Colville added.

Who is Jacob Blake?

About 3 months after the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police, another black man — Jacob Blake — was shot several times by the Kenosha police in Wisconsin on Sunday.

The shooting captured on cellphone video quickly went viral, triggering a fresh wave of protests against racial injustice in several cities of the US.
