Abbott Laboratories has received an “Emergency Use Authorization” from the US Food and Drug Administration for a COVID-19 portable antigen test that will deliver results within 15 minutes. Its cost would be $5.
The company’s BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card needs no additional equipment to operate.
It uses lateral flow technology withspecificity of 98.5% and demonstrated sensitivity of 97.1% and in clinical study.
“The device will be an important tool to manage risk by quickly identifying infectious people so they don’t spread the disease to others,” the company said in a statement.
