Even the beauty of Yosemite National Park could not escape the effects of the wildfires. The park, located in the western Sierra Nevada of Central California, is closing to all visitors owing to wildfire smoke and the hazardous air quality, the National Park Service said.
Recent wildfires in California have displaced thousands of residents and caused dangerous air quality conditions across the state. Over 17,000 firefighters are battling 26 major and three extended wildfires in the state, sources said.
Since fires in California spiked last month, there have been 25 deaths so far and about 5,400 structures destroyed.
Designated a World Heritage Site in 1984, the park is globally recognized for its granite cliffs, waterfalls, clear streams, meadows, glaciers, and biological diversity.
