President Joe Biden commenced a three-day fundraising tour in California, taking a jab at Republican contender Donald Trump’s claim that he would act as a dictator on his first day back in office. Responding to Trump’s statement about being a dictator on day one, Biden, at a Los Angeles fundraiser, quipped, “Thank God, only one day.”
Speaking to a gathering at the home of celebrity interior designer Michael Smith and former HBO executive James Costos, Biden referred to Trump, who aimed to reverse the 2020 election results, as a danger to democracy. Having been indicted in August, Trump is facing legal issues about his attempts to void the election.
The president chose not to bring up his son Hunter during the fundraising event, despite the fact that Biden’s trip comes in the wake of fresh criminal charges relating to tax evasion. Following the end of labour disputes in the entertainment industry, contributions to California, a major centre for Democratic fundraising, have increased.
Biden’s campaign co-chair, movie tycoon Jeffrey Katzenberg, voiced optimism about the success of the fundraising efforts while on this trip, pointing to the end of labour strife as a driver of higher contributions. Prominent people including Rob Reiner, Lenny Kravitz, Steven Spielberg, and Barbra Streisand attended thfundraisers during the California swing.
It is projected that Biden’s fundraising tour, which will include stops in Boston, would bring in at least $15 million, adding to the projected total of almost $67 million for the fourth quarter of 2023. These initiatives are in line with Biden’s plan to fund important bills like the Inflation Reduction Act, the Chips and Science Act, and the Infrastructure Law in an effort to strengthen his reputation as an economic leader in spite of obstacles shown by recent surveys.
