Democrat US President-Elect Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. has taken oath as the 46th President of the United States of America on the Western Front of the US Capitol building in works of the United State’s 59th Presidential Inauguration Ceremony.
At 9:12 pm IST, Biden arrived at the Capitol Building ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris’ swearing-in ceremony.
Kamala Harris, the Vice President, the first woman, the first Black American, and the first South Asian American vice president, was sworn in by Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who had also previously administered the oath to Biden when he was chosen as the Vice President back in 2013.
The ceremony is although stricter and much smaller because of the current dual risk of the COVID-19 pandemic, and possible risk of a domestic terrorist attack which will keep up its former grandeur as attendees will include former presidents, congressmen, members of the Senate, and several distinguished artists as well.
Continuing the age-old tradition, the oath of the President was administered by the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court, John Roberts, just after the stroke of the midnight hour.
The 59th Presidential Inauguration Ceremony will perhaps be the one with the shortest attendance ever as Washington, DC remains on high alert as the US Supreme Court was finally given an all-safe after a bomb threat had been called in.
Amid the risk of a possible terrorist threat, police officers have remained stationed inside the building during the ceremony.
Security measures have also been increased following a breach on the Capitol Building last week.
Joe Biden, on his first day as the President, will be issuing 17 executive orders on COVID-19, climate change, immigration and more.
Biden defeated the office-bearing Donald Trump President of the United States in the 2020 presidential elections. Biden also served as the 47th vice president from 2009 to 2017 during the Obama Administration.
