According to media reports, Twitter’s much-talked about Twitter Blue subscription plan, which is presently on hold, may cost extra for iPhone users. The Twitter Blue plan will cost $7 if customers join online and $11 if they do so through the Twitter app for iPhones, claims new Twitter CEO Elon Musk, according to a story by The Information.
The microblogging service has let certain of its staff members know that it will alter the cost of its Twitter Blue subscription service.
According to The Information report, the price hike is probably a result of Apple’s 30% share of app revenue sales for iOS, the company’s mobile operating system for iPhones and iPads.
This comes after Musk criticised the Apple App Store reduction a few days ago, calling it a “hidden 30% tax on the internet.” Recall that the Tesla CEO previously questioned whether the iPhone manufacturer detested free speech in a tweet, saying: “Apple has mostly stopped advertising on Twitter. Do they hate free speech in America?”
Days later, however, after meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook, new Twitter CEO and tech billionaire Musk announced that there had been a misunderstanding regarding Twitter being deleted from the Apple App Store. This occurred just a week after Musk said Apple had discontinued the majority of its advertising on the microblogging site and threatened to remove the app from its App Store.
Only the iOS app for Twitter could be used to purchase the new Blue when it was temporarily offered a few days ago. The Platformer previously reported that Musk was openly expressing his anger with Apple and that it appeared he also wanted to avoid having to pay Apple’s fees.
The Twitter Blue subscription will undergo several adjustments, including a one-cent price hike from $7.99 to $8 and the need for phone number verification, according to a report by The Platformer.
