United States President Donald Trump’s anticipated one-on-one meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin will now be held in a three-on-three format, US media reported on Friday. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will join Trump at the table, while the composition of the Russian delegation remains unclear.
Trump arrived in Anchorage, Alaska, earlier in the day ahead of his first face-to-face talks with Putin since 2019. The summit, scheduled for 11:00 am local time at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, is aimed at exploring potential steps toward ending the Ukraine war.
Speaking aboard Air Force One before landing, Trump warned he “would walk if the meeting doesn’t go well.” He reiterated the stance in an earlier interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier, saying the US would not conduct business with Russia unless Moscow agreed to end the fighting in Ukraine.
The discussions are expected to cover security guarantees for Ukraine, arms control, and broader US-Russia relations. Trump has floated the idea of land swaps as a possible peace solution, but the proposal has found little support in Kyiv or among European allies.
The Kremlin has indicated the meeting could last up to seven hours, underlining its scope and complexity. This engagement is seen as the most significant direct contact between the two leaders in years, with both sides under pressure to deliver tangible progress toward peace.
