Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States and the current front-runner for the nomination of the Republican Party in 2024, is scheduled to make an appearance in court today to be fingerprinted, photographed, and formally charged in what will be a pivotal moment in the run-up to the presidential election in 2020.
The allegations against Trump, who will be 77 in June, would make him the first serving or former president to be prosecuted for criminal offenses. A grand jury in Manhattan decided last week to bring charges against him in connection with a case involving a hush money payment made to porn actress Stormy Daniels in 2016. On the other hand, the particular accusations have not been made public as yet. Trump, like every other convicted felon, maintains his innocence and plans to enter a not-guilty plea in the next trial.
It remains to be seen how many of Trump’s enthusiastic followers would go to his strongly democratic hometown, where car travel is difficult, given that Trump had previously been able to pull tens of thousands of ardent supporters to his rallies around the nation.
In the last days of the 2016 presidential campaign, the grand jury that was in charge of prosecuting Donald Trump heard testimony about a payment of $130,000 made to the adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Daniels has claimed that she was given money to stay quiet about a sexual encounter that she claims to have had with Trump in 2006 at a hotel in Lake Tahoe.
Trump, on the other hand, maintains that there was no sexual contact between the two of them but has admitted to reimbursing Cohen, his former personal lawyer, for the money.
In addition to this, President Trump is the subject of a separate criminal investigation into whether or not he unlawfully attempted to reverse his loss in the 2020 election held in the state of Georgia, as well as investigations being conducted by the Justice Department into both the election and his handling of classified documents after leaving office.
