On Friday, the Taliban administration in Afghanistan posted a statement on Twitter asking for an end to the continuing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Abdul Qahar Balkhi, the spokesperson for Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, suggested that the crisis be handled by “dialogue and peaceful means.”
The message, which was made public, stated “The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and expresses concern about the real possibility of civilian casualties. The Islamic Emirate calls for restraint by both parties. All sides need to desist from taking positions that could intensify violence.”
The statement ended by urging “parties to the conflict to pay attention to safeguarding the lives of Afghan students and migrants in Ukraine.”

The Taliban took back control of Afghanistan in August 2021, following the withdrawal of US soldiers from the nation after a 20-year campaign following the 9/11 attacks.
Meanwhile, at least 198 people have been killed and over 1,000 have been injured in Ukraine’s most recent fighting. According to NetBlocks, an internet blockage monitoring service, internet access in Ukraine has been severely impacted, particularly in the country’s southern and eastern regions where violence has spilt into the streets.
So far, on the 3rd day of the assault, Russian soldiers have taken Melitopol in southern Ukraine. In addition, Moscow has conducted synchronized cruise missile and artillery assaults on many towns in the neighbouring nation, including Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital.
